Most non-digitally native companies struggle at some level with legacy technical debt. Often poorly integrated monolithic architectures not only slow speed to market but hinder innovation and deliver poor customer experiences.

If you are a senior technology leader struggling with any of these challenges, our breakfast event will provide the opportunity to hear insights and recommendations from speakers from Vodafone, Sovereign and MMT Digital as well as network with fellow tech executives solving (or trying to solve) these complex issues.

8.15am: Registration & Coffee

8.45am: Chair’s Welcome
Zannah Ingraham, Head of Client Service Delivery, MMT Digital

8.50: Driving Speed to Market and Innovation within the Constraints of Legacy Platforms
Paul Whyte, Head of Systems Engineering, Vodafone

How do you deliver digital experiences to customers in record speed whilst reducing waste and cost, all the while breaking down the enterprise monolith?

Learn how the telecoms giant has established a DevOps culture and industry-leading best practices which have delivered some impressive results (and awards) while it iterates towards a more modern, cloud-based, microservices architecture.

9.20am: Digital Transformation: Mindset over Matter
Sam Dart, Head of Digital Technology Services, Sovereign

Following a large merger, Sovereign Housing embarked on a digital transformation programme that puts customer service at its heart. As part of this initiative, legacy web applications and back-office systems have been replaced with new cloud-based solutions. Hear how this leading housing association has overcome legacy systems and technical debt to enable future growth and innovation as well as how establishing a new organisational mindset has been the key to its success.

Configuration over code, iterative development and product management would have meant little within Sovereign a few years ago, but through showcasing the benefits and enjoying success, it is now able to expand its digital offering and reduce its reliance on out-dated technology to deliver superior digital experiences to its tenants.

9.50am: Tackling Legacy Technical Debt: from Monolith to Microservices
James Cannings, Co-founder, MMT Digital

Over the past five years, there has been a significant shift away from installing and upgrading large enterprise monolithic platforms as companies try to become more agile and innovative. In part, this has been driven by the threat of digitally native start-ups who can deliver value to customers much more quickly.

Throwing it all away and starting again is rarely a practical or realistic option, but the fundamental question remains: how can we best start iterating towards a more modern, cloud-based, microservices architecture within the constraints of legacy platforms?

Having been involved in the architecture, design and build of hundreds of complex agile developments and cloud deployments for companies including Vodafone, Sovereign, comparethemarket.com and Translink, James will share his insights and recommend the common patterns for breaking down the enterprise monolith.

10.20am: Chair’s Closing Remarks

10.30am: Coffee & Networking

11am: Goodbyes!
