Ben Lee is an AI advisor to professional services firms in real estate, specialising in the gap between AI hype and what firms actually need. He's used AI in his own work daily since early 2022 — nine months before ChatGPT launched — and that early, hands-on exposure shaped a contrarian view he still holds: most AI adoption advice given to this industry today is wrong, even though the technology itself is right for where the sector is heading.
His approach starts from a simple test: you can't instruct an AI model until you can properly explain the work. That's why he builds engagements around the sceptics inside an organisation — the people who understand the work most deeply but have stayed out of the AI conversation — rather than the enthusiasts who are usually first in the room.
Talking to peers across 25 years in real estate convinced him the real barrier for SME and mid-market firms isn't appetite, it's that they lack the internal resources to move quickly and won't write the size of cheque the Big Four ask for.
