About Brian Teeman

Brian Teeman is a pioneering figure in the open source software world, with a career spanning three decades at the intersection of technology, community, and the web.

As co-founder of Joomla! — one of the world's most widely used content management systems — and Open Source Matters Inc., Brian has played a defining role in shaping how the internet is built and managed. His roots in open source run deep: he co-founded the first Linux ISP in the UK, helped launch the first UK-targeted Linux distribution, and was an active Core Team member of Mambo before Joomla! came to life in 2005.

With a background that bridges IT and social work, Brian brings a rare combination of technical depth and human understanding to everything he does. He has worked with Joomla!-powered websites for clients of all sizes and has presented to audiences across the globe — from intimate rooms to crowds of five hundred.

His contributions to the open source community have not gone unnoticed. In 2005 he received the award for UK Individual Contribution to Open Source Software, notably as the first and only recipient who was not a programmer. In 2009, readers of Computer Weekly named his blog the Open Source in Business Blog of the Year.

Opinionated, engaging, and refreshingly direct, Brian is a speaker who brings both experience and personality to the stage.
