Some conversations only happen when we show up

This week, I stayed home while our team brought the community together in Bjerringbro, Boston and Toronto.

Matthew Garrepy led our digital leaders and CMS experts in a charming Boston art gallery. Julian Mills brought employee experience leaders together in Toronto, while Peter Dahlstrøm Andersen visited the Grundfos headquarters with our UX researchers.

This was quite a change for me. I have spent this week of September in Boston for more than a decade, without missing a year or a bowl of clam chowder.

After joining us in Boston, Jean Alexandre from OpenText wrote that he had “found my tribe”. To quote:
"In a world overflowing with vendor-hyped webinars and generic tech conferences, Boye & Company's peer groups stand apart."

Raelene Morey, the Australia-based editor and publisher of The Repository, recently wrote about the challenges facing independent events. Her conclusion was wonderfully direct:

“If there’s an event near you, buy a ticket and show up. It matters more than you think.”

Showing up sustains spaces where people can speak honestly, make unexpected connections and discover that they are not alone in the questions they are asking.

Next week, I will be showing up again in Oslo, where three of our Norwegian groups are meeting. I will also have lunch with Sigurd Magnusson from Silverstripe in New Zealand, who first joined us in Philadelphia more than a decade ago.

I love how this community keeps us connected across continents and across the years.
